Review: Crystal Shawanda – You Can Let Go

I’m eager to see where this single brings Crystal, because there isn’t many Native American country stars. I can think of only two off the top of my head. Loretta Lynn and little sister Crystal Gayle, who are of Cherokee ancestry. I’m sure there are others who have some kind of ancestry but none to my knowledge that Crystal Shawanda does. Though I hope she’s successful, this isn’t the single that’ll do it. The first time I heard her voice was on her television show on CMT Canada.  I could hear her doing some great uptempo country rockers, that’s what I thought her voice would suit. Then I listened to “You Can Let Go” and though two things. One: I was wrong she can handle a ballad, and Two: This song is boring. There’s nothing wrong with the sound of the song, but the lyric is mediocre at best. There’s a problem when after the first verse I already know how the song is going to end. Maybe it’s because so much of the songs on todays country radio share similar topics, but this song is too predictable for me to say it’s great. The only thing keeping this one from being a total flop is the vocals, which have to be the best from the new batch of females. Hopefully her next one will be better.C+
